PAC12, C-USA, & MAC Tournament Picks

March 13, 2013

Record: 62-54

USC -1 vs. Utah
The PAC 12 tournament is underway this afternoon in Las Vegas with four games. We're focusing on game three where the Trojans take on the Utes. USC cooled off a bit after their hot stretch winning six of eight games. They lost two straight road games to the Washington schools. Still, they are the better team in this matchup. USC beat Utah 76-59 on the road back on January 12th and that was when they weren't playing as good basketball as they are now. Utah won two straight entering this one at home against the Oregon schools. That snapped a four game losing streak. They clearly feed off the home crowd winning most of their conference games there except for a win at Washington. I think there will be more Trojans fans there which will help them get the win.

Marshall +3.5 vs. Tulane & Over 141.5
The C-USA tournament gets underway on Thursday as Marshall takes on Tulane in game three of the day. We find ourselves backing the Thundering Herd again as they have just too much talent not to be doing better. Marshall lost to Tulane 91-75 on the road back on February 6th. This is a team capable of big things as they knocked of Southern Miss on March 5th, but followed that up with a seven point loss at East Carolina. Elijah Pittman, DeAndre Kane, DD Scarver and Dennis Tinnon all score over 10 points per game and are a deadly combination. Tulane counters with Josh Davis who had a big game against the Thundering Herd back on the sixth as well as Ricky Tarrant and Jordan Callahan. I'm taking Marshall to save their season and start a run in the conference tournament. This one should be high scoring too.

Ball State +3 vs. Buffalo
If there was an official team of this blog, it would have to be Ball State who has been profitable to us for the most part this season. Now they take on Buffalo in the MAC tournament. The Bulls have struggled to close out the year losing four of their last six. They held on for dear life in overtime to knock off woeful Central Michigan at home and now head to a neutral court. You know the names for the Cardinals with Jauwan Scaife, Majok Majok and Jesse Berry leading the way. They have won five straight and seven of their last eight. Makes you almost wonder why they are an underdog in this one. I'll take the potential trap here and take the better team getting points.
