Bracket Buster Epilogue

February 24, 2013

Record: 39-42

UVA -9.5 vs. Georgia Tech
The Wahoos return home after a pair of two tough road losses. Now they need to take care of business against Georgia Tech who beat them earlier this month in Atlanta. UVA plays so much better at home where they've won their last few games by 18, 37, 3, 14 and 20. This is a team that plays great defense and can score against the right opponents. They would have beaten the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta if not for a long drought from the field. GT has won two straight road games after falling in five straight games away from home. This one should be a blowout as the Wahoos can't waste much energy before Thursday's home game with Duke.

Charlotte +1.5 vs. Temple
This is a crucial battle between two bubble teams in the A-10. Temple won their first matchup by one point in Philadelphia back on February 6th. The 49ers have lost five of their last eight games, but are a different team at home where they've only fallen to VCU. Charlotte was able to take advantage of matchups against the Owls on the inside. The team just kicked DeMario Mayfield off the roster who was the leading scorer, but he wasn't a factor for awhile either. The problem with this pick is trying to figure out the Owls. They have had some bad home losses, but have played better on the road where they beat UMass last weekend. I'll play the 49ers at home who rarely lose there and probably should have beaten Temple the first time.

Purdue -6.5 vs. Northwestern
The Wildcats are a beaten and battered team having lost seven players to season ending injuries. Their last win came at home vs. Purdue on February 2nd, but they had Jared Swopshire for that one. He is now gone and since then they have lost four straight failing to get to 60 points in any of the games. They have lost by 10, 14, 22 and 15 in their last four road games. Purdue isn't playing too much better basketball, but they are home and now have revenge on their minds. The Boilermakers have lost three straight games, but they came against Indiana, Illinois and Michigan State. They have taken care of the bottom of the Big 10 for the most part and will do so again today.

Montana State Moneyline vs. South Dakota
We had to give you one more Bracket Buster. The Bobcats are a dangerous team despite their record as they have seven players who average at least seven points per game. Neither of these two have aspirations of a conference title as neither is that good. Montana State has won seven of their last nine at home and has had the week off to prepare for this game. South Dakota has lost six straight including three on the road. They have also had the week off and will be playing three straight road games to close out the regular season. We'll take the home team to win in this Sunday Bracket Buster.
