Rivalry Wednesday

February 13, 2013

Rivalry week finally produced a victory for us as the Wahoos cruised to a win over the Hokies. Very nice card today for the readers. Reminder that if you want my opinion or to see any bonus picks, follow me on twitter @Brosephs950. Feel free to tell me how much you enjoy the column or the podcast.

Record 29-27

UConn +4.5 vs. Syracuse
As I've said here, I'm an Orange alum and I'm particularly harder on the teams I root for instead of being the usual massive homer. This could be the last game for awhile between these two rivals as the Cuse is heading to the ACC and will not see the Huskies in the Big East tournament. UConn is returning home after two straight road games and have been pretty good at home outside of a loss to Louisville back on January 14th. You know that will be a juiced atmosphere welcoming the Orange who have lost two straight on the road which could have been three if not for an epic comeback against Louisville. UConn's shooters could be an issue if they are on. We'll take the home team and the points.

Miami-Ohio +8.5 vs. Kent State
This is an interesting matchup with regards to the numbers. The RedHawks have either won or lost by single digits on the road in five straight games this season. They have won just once in their last seven overall, but are a talented team nonetheless led by Allen Roberts and Will Felder. Kent State at home is an interesting proposition as they've won their last two by double digits against the weaker directional Michigans. Before that they were on a three game home losing streak to Toledo, Akron and Ohio. The Golden Flashes rely heavily on Chris Evans and Randal Holt for a lot of their scoring. I think this is a lot of points so take the road squad to keep it close.

Duke -11 vs. North Carolina
The Blue Devils should be licking their chops to see a wounded Tar Heels team come to Durham tonight. UNC lost by 26 last time out at Miami in a game that they were thoroughly embarrassed in. The team really struggles to find a go to player with James Michael McAdoo struggling to be the leader. Reggie Bullock and PJ Hairston are good options, but are inconsistent. UNC has lost by 9 at UVA and 18 at a struggling Texas already this season. Duke has won nine straight home games by 10 or more and is cruising since losing to Miami. This one may be done pretty early.
