Off The Board Knowledge

January 23, 2013

We are raging towards March Madness as conference play continues. It's Wednesday so it's time to drop some more off the board knowledge.

Record: 8-5

St. Joseph's (-7) vs. St. Bonaventure
The Hawks are in the top three most talented teams in the A-10 which is saying a lot considering the new additions the conference made and the talent already there. The problem is consistency with them as they have kept far too many bad teams close and have struggled to close in other games. The Bonnies come to town fresh off a win at Temple 81-78. This has been rare for a team that lost by 19 at GW, 21 at Colorado State and 19 at NC State in their last three road games. They did beat Niagara on the road back in November and won at Cornell, but this is going to be a tougher atmosphere. We'll cross our fingers and hope the Hawks remember they are the better team.

Ball State (Pick) vs. Buffalo
The Bulls are a lusty 6-12 this season. They snapped a four game losing streak Saturday with a three point win at home over Bowling Green. The road has been unkind to UB as they've lost all but two of those games. This is a team that relies on Javon McCrea inside as he is the team's leading rebounder and scorer. The Cardinals have lost three straight and five of their last seven games. This is a better team then their record as they have three players averaging over double digit points on the season. Majok Majok is actually averaging 10.5 rebounds per game to go along with his 12.1 PPG. We'll take the home team and hope Majok outplays McCrea.

Georgia State (-6.5) vs. UNC Wilmington
The Panthers have won three straight and four of their last six games. The wins have come over William and Mary, Old Dominion and Towson. GSU is coming home after playing at Towson on Monday so that is a bit of a concern. They are led by RJ Hunter who is putting up over 16 points per game. Wilmington is a mess outside of Keith Rendleman. This is a team that cannot make the postseason due to APR issues and has struggled to win away from Trask Coliseum. They have lost every true road game this season falling in spectacular fashion to Richmond, Ohio, Purdue, Davidson, Campbell and James Madison. I think this is a lean number for the better squad at home.
